Interview #2 - Legions of Will TCG

Had an amazing interview that I had with the creator of Legions of Will TCG. Not gonna lie I have known him for a while now, and he is such an amazing person. Get to know more about him below!

Describe your game? The Legions of Will lore takes place in a universe where the world goes through these repeating catastrophic periods that essentially reset any progress that civilizations have made. The game is focused on taking out your opponent's three base cards. The game is one that can be taught and played during weekend game nights and can run shorter than most games, but depending on the players and their deck building skills, can get into some more lengthy matches with lots of interactions. What inspired you to create your own game? I wanted to make a game that can be played and understood easily. I was difficult to get friends and family into playing certain games with me and so I wanted to address all of those issues, while working on a concept that had come to me prior. How did you come up with the game’s name? The name came to me the same way the idea itself came to me. I initially had called the game Archangel, but in Legions of Will, the units you play and attack with have a will requirement to attack. You build up an army to defend your bases as well, and with those two core concepts of the game, Legions of Will just came about. How long have you been working on your game? I started working on the concept around the end of 2020, beginning of 2021. The progress on the game really took off in 2022, with the printing and more focused playtesting. What makes your game different from other TCGs? The game concept itself would make it unique and stand out more, while presenting an interesting opportunity for discussion and opinion from anyone looking into the game. Specifically, the limited hand size and will requirement for attacking. The less controversial elements that make the game unique would be the base and upgrade concepts. New players do favor the way resource is generated and the lack of keywords that may make it difficult for new players to learn the game. Everything is written out in as few lines as possible without the need to memorize any keywords or symbols. This goes back to the idea that friends and family would argue against playing certain games with me due to those reasons. What is one of the biggest challenges you had in creating this game? There were some learning experiences as far as working with printing companies and having the right information and statistics to match what we wanted to do, especially with a 275 cards set. I can see why most games stick to a limited number of cards and quantity. But, once that was sorted out, the production and creation process is actually one of my favorite parts of creating the game. The biggest challenge would be finding the right support to help cover all other aspects of operating a TCG. Luckily, I've had some great help in promoting and playtesting the game, in addition to the help I've had from my wife in getting the game created, printed and shipped. Do you have a favorite card in the game? (If so, let us know why it is your favorite card.) That's tricky. I have a few favorites for a few different reasons, like favorite art, favorite meaning, favorite mechanic...but overall I would have to say Angel of Protection. The art, the alt-art, the effect and other minor aspects of the card and character are for sure my favorite in the game. It's a biblically accurate angel that is very difficult to destroy and can block multiple units. What are your future plans for the future for your game? Right now, we're wrapping up the printing and production of the second 255-card set, Forgotten Tribes, which focuses on three unique civilizations in the Legions of Will universe; Anoterons, Dwellers and Giants. Of course, I'm really looking forward to have this new set in hand. We're working on the third set, which will be a mini expansion set with one single theme. We have several LGS play events lined up to further promote the game and my overall goals for Legions of Will is to work with those who are genuinely interested and passionate about the game as we continue to grow our community. As a creator what advice would you give you to others who are trying to presume their dreams? Stay focused and work with a group of people that you enjoy working with.
